SNV International Workshop on Financing of Domestic Biogas Plants

Objectives of the Workshop:

The two objectives of the International Workshop are:
  • To exchange a maximum of information about the use of financial instruments among the participants, being practitioners, researchers and policy makers;
  • To arrive at clarity about the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the use of the various financial instruments among the participants.

Organisation: The International Workshop will be organised by the SNV Netherlands Development Organisation.

Dates, Venue and Language:

The International Workshop will be conducted on 22 and 23 October 2008 in Bangkok. The venue in Bangkok is not yet decided and will be communicated in September 2008.

The language of the Workshop will be English, and no translation facilities will be available.

Tentative Programme: The Workshop will present the ins and outs of the various financial instruments and their use in the framework of national biogas programmes in selected countries like PR China, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Rwanda. A large part of the programme will be reserved to discuss on the advantages and disadvantages of the (combination of the) various instruments and the way forward.

Participation, registration, limited possibilities for sponsoring:

Any involved and interested person can attend the Workshop, but will need to bear all their costs for attending and make their own arrangements. Also the arrangement of visa – if required – is the full responsibility of the participant. For the purpose of registration, please send an e-mail message to Mr. Wim J. van Nes of SNV, wvannes@..., preferably before the end of August 2008 Thanks to a grant received from the Directorate General for International Cooperation (DGIS) of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the framework of the Asia Biogas Programme (ABP), SNV has some, but limited possibilities to sponsor the costs of participants from developing countries with an emerging biogas programme for travelling and staying in Bangkok. Priority will be provided to practitioners from the ongoing biogas programmes supported by SNV. Anybody in addition who likes to apply for such sponsorship is requested to submit a CV along with a motivation before the end of August 2008 to Mr. Wim J. van Nes of SNV, wvannes@...

Call for presentations and documents:

There will be a limited possibility to present a paper at the Workshop. Anybody who likes to apply for the delivery of a presentation is kindly requested to submit an abstract of maximum one page (wvannes@snvworld.org) before the end of August 2008.In addition, anybody who possesses relevant documents on financial instruments applied in large-scale programmes on renewable energy is kindly invited to send an electronic version mail (wvannes@snvworld.org, attachments to be smaller than 5 MB) before the end of September 2008. SNV will prepare a compilation of all documents, but reserves the right to edit, shorten or reject them.
