CarbonSIG - Special Interest Group on "Cooking and Carbon"
CarbonSIG connects all those engaged in greenhouse gas emissions reduction, carbon sequestration, and climate adaptation who are working to create a sustainable environment that benefits those living in poverty through information, discussion and action around improved household energy. CarbonSIG is looking for sponsors! Are you a carbon offset company looking to raise your profile? Or how about an NGO looking to get involved with cook stoves? If you are interested then please click here. New Cookstove Methodology developed by ClimateCare This methodology has been developed for large-scale projects disseminating improved cookstoves. It will help to launch large-scale programmes on and act as a guideline for the CDM small-scale projects - Read it here Carbon Catalog An interesting website with a directory of carbon offsets that lists and rates over 80 offset providers and 300 projects worldwide. See www.carboncatalog.org for more information Request for news, events and resources We are always looking for relevant news, events and resources to distribute to network members so please feel free to email the list directly (you must be signed up to do this) or email your information to me and I'll post it for you. You can contribute information from your own work, that of your organisation, or news you have heard from others, and could have a local, regional or international focus. The SIG operates via a webpage and an email list so anything from press releases and project updates to reports and academic papers are welcome. Any problems or comments please feel free to email me at james@... Cheers, James Robinson CarbonSIG Moderator [top] [end]AimsCarbonSIG specifically aims to:

[top] [end]BackgroundIn November 2005, a Cooking and Carbon Expert Workshop was held at the Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University, UK. Minutes of this meeting can be found here. One of the key outcomes of this workshop was the need for more joined up working on the issues of climate change associated with biomass use (particularly household energy), if those living in poverty are to benefit from carbon emission reduction initiatives. HEDON Household Energy Network was charged with developing a community of practice to facilitate this process. This ‘Special Interest Group’ – known as ‘CarbonSIG’, was the first Special Interest Group to be formed within HEDON household energy network and started on September 4th, 2006.
