| Description | HEI publishes two reports on Health Effects of Particles in Humans - December 2003 The reports describe two human controlled exposure studies that are part of HEIs efforts to understand how particles might affect people. The first study, by Dr Stephen Holgate and colleagues, was funded by HEI to take advantage of previous exposures conducted in Sweden and the US: it analyzed bronchial tissue samples from healthy and asthmatic volunteers exposed to diesel exhaust in Sweden and from healthy volunteers exposed to CAPs in North Carolina. It is described in Research Report 112, Health Effects of Acute Exposure to Air Pollution. Part I: Healthy and Asthmatic Subjects Exposed to Diesel Exhaust; Part II: Healthy Subjects Exposed to Concentrated Ambient Particles.
