ProBEC has a new website which has a lot of technical information and drawings and instructions that others in the basic energy sector might find useful.

The new, upgraded website fulfils many functions: as a public relations tool, as a way of sharing information between countries via its private/internal section, as well as being the computerised component of their results-based monitoring and evaluation system (RBM). The website therefore is a web-based knowledge management system (KMS), where you can also find general information on ProBEC as well as housing its new MEDIA ROOM

There is a MEDIA ROOM for visiting journalists to obtain ready-made stories with photos, or at least some leads they may want to pursue themselves. ProBEC wants to attain better coverage in the media and get more attention in the development community and in the sector in general. They also hope to highlight the issue of basic energy and sharpen the profile of ProBEC on the SADC level, and to demonstrate leadership and build relationships with similar organisations.Overall ProBEC wishes to create awareness for the efficient use of basic energy.

The website has a computerised RBM component, making access across the region easy. This enables staff from our regional projects scattered across eight southern African countries to input data on stove production and sales so that the monitoring and evaluation manager at the central office can verify the results and co-ordinate "counting" and measurement of indicators.

Users are categorised as administrative, M&E officer & M&E director, and each user has a personal password. The RBM reminds users of progress and work that is outstanding, with deadlines. The M&E officers enter details on interventions into basic energy solutions, indicators, all other information pertaining to their country, as requested by a data schedule. Modifications made to any one part does not affect the rest.

Data verification and interrogation can then be done centrally, making it easy to make comparisons between countries and regions and their respective technologies. Arithmetical and logical algorithms process this raw data and generate a graph, which assists the M&E manager with accessing results to observe impacts and generate reports.
