Volunteers"Her three children were blinking at me in the darkness from behind her skirt. The woman was extremely ill and had a racking cough, and I remember the blackness inside the home and the stench of wood smoke which was over powering. That brought home to me exactly why this is such an important problem and why we need to do something about it."This description, given by Hilary Benn - UK Secretary of State for International Development at a Practical Action event in 2005 - describes clearly the situation under which almost half the world lives. Energy technologies need to be improved, not just to reduce smoke, but to make stoves more efficient, thus reducing deforestation, giving women improved choice, learning about other fuels such as biofuels, which can be faster and cleaner - there is so much to do. HEDON is addressing the issues associated with household energy 'head on' and needs volunteers with all sorts of skills to help build, maintain and get the most out of our site and services. The work you do can make a real impact for those living in poverty and help to improve life for those whose homes are made dangerous and unwelcoming due to smoke. You can find out more about HEDON here. By helping to improve HEDON, you can join a team of people whose focus is on two of the most vulnerable groups - women and children. Your time and effort is therefore really valuable. Which of these descriptions fits your skills best?
