United Nations Development Programme, Botswana

UNDP (Botswana) via their Energy and Environment programme, has one main energy project. This is the Renewable Energy-based Rural Electrification project, otherwise known as RE-Botswana. The RE-Botswana project is funded by GEF and the Government of Botswana and is being implemented by the Botswana Power Corporation. The RE-Botswana aims to remove barriers to access for rural households to renewable and clean energy and targets policy, delivery models, finance, awareness, training and capacity building, and learning and replication. One of the key outputs has been the establishment of a rural energy services company called "BPC Lesedi" which will provide small solar photovoltaic systems and improved efficiency cooking apliances to rural households and others on a fee-for-service basis.
