Shell Foundation projects in India

India is the lead country for the Shell Foundation's Household Energy and Health Programme.

Currently, the Shell Foundation supports two NGO-managed projects to increase the access of poor households to improved household energy services:


[top] [end]1) Commercialisation of Improved Biomass Fuels and Cooking Devices in India



Project location: Maharashtra State, India
Project co-ordinator: Appropriate Rural Technology Institute (ARTI)
Project goals: The project aims at disseminating improved biomass fuels and cooking devices through rural micro-enterprises in Maharashtra State in India.
Duration: 36 Months

[top] [end]2) Energy Services for Village Households and Livelihood Enterprises in Bundelkhand



Project location: Bundelkhand, India
Project partners: Development Alternatives, India
Project goals: Through over 200 self-help groups in the region, DA designs and delivers renewable resource based solutions for cooking fuels, cooking devices, cooking spaces and household lighting.
Duration: 36 Months

In addition to these projects The Shell Foundation works in partnership with the United Nations Environmental Programme and Canara and Syndicate Banks to offer financing services for Solar Home Systems, and is supporting the development of a network focused on Household Energy and Health in India.
