The availability of cleaner energy sources in health facilities has a positive contribution to the delivery of health services. It is therefore vital that energy considerations should be part of every policy or project planning process. For more information download the training module below.
Energy, Health and the MDGs (197 KB) [top] [end]Gender, Health and the Environment The millennium development goal is to promote gender equality, empower women and eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education. With the availability of modern, affordable and reliable energy services, clean cooking fuels and equipment and good quality lighting, health, safety and the environment will improve.
Gender, Health and Environment (533 KB) The Millennium Development Goals, or MDGs, are an integrated set of eight goals and 18 timebound targets to be reached by 2015. The main purpose is setting a vision for the future, a world with less poverty, hunger and disease, better health and education, equal opprtunities for women, a healthier environment and a world in which developed and developing countries work in partnership for the betterment of all.
Poverty Modified - Energy and MDGs (543 KB) [top] [end]Module 1: Introduction to Energy Energy is a central input in all development activities. In the rural areas of Mulanje and Phalombe districts, where the majority of the population live, energy use is characterized by overall low levels of modern energy consumption with a high dependency on biomass. The task of energy planning is to ensure that energy needs are met while balancing supply options.
Introduction to Energy - Module 1 (322 KB) [top] [end]Module 2: Energy Planning The general aim is to enable participants to identify the most promising renewable energy conversion technology options within an area for the two districts and their potentials and constraints for satisfying energy needs in rural areas. Renewable energy technologies produce power, heat or mechanical energy by converting those resources either to electricity or to motive power.
