Blue Ventures Carbon Offset (BVCO) launched this year and after six months in development has begun implementing the carbon offset dream that is helping communities to reduce their fuel use, reducing their fuel expenditure and deforestation rate in the region.

The beginning of this year saw BVCO coordinate with the Association pour le Développement de l'Energie Solaire (ADES), to extend the ADES stove programme to additional communities in the south of Madagascar a project that would not exist without this partnership. ADES and BVCO are planning for further communities to receive benefit from the stove project in future years.

March to July saw the first trial of three models of efficient cooking stoves; the solar parabolic stove, the solar oven and the ‘Yoyo’ stove – an energy efficient portable metal stove for use with small bits of wood in the community of Andavadoaka in SW Madagascar. This period closed with a public demonstration day that showed the stoves were favourable to all of the users, and now the project is being rolled out to the rest of the community of Andavadoaka. The stages are outlined in further detail in the newsletter to download below.
