EUROPAID published call for proposal on "Environment and sustainable management of natural resources including energy" with a deadline of 21 February 2008 The first Call for Proposals for the EU's development programme "Environment and sustainable management of natural resources including energy" was published by EUROPAID with a deadline of 21.02.2008
The objective of the thematic programme on environment and sustainable management of natural resources, including water, and energy, shall be to integrate environmental protection requirements into the Community's development and other external policies as well as to help promote the Community's environmental and energy policies abroad in the common interest of the Community and partner countries and regions.
Ref: EuropeAid/126201/C/ACT/Multi.
This Call's priority covers sustainable energy options - successor of the IEE-COOPENER programme.
All actions should contribute to: - Promoting implementation of EU initiatives and internationally agreed commitments
- Forests
- Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT)
- Climate Change
- Biodiversity
- Desertification
- Support for sustainable energy options in partner countries and regions.
- Improving sustainable management of energy resources and reducing energy losses in production, transport and distribution globally is a way to moving the energy path to a more sustainable one, which is not revolutionary – but evolutionary.
- Developing countries are short of adequate energy networks with losses in energy transportation, which has serious impacts on the environment.
- Energy savings and energy efficiency measures both on the supply and the demand side should play a major role in ensuring a sustainable energy future.
The actions funded should target specific energy producing countries in Africa, (northern and sub-Saharan African countries) and in Central Asia, in order to help improve the management of their energy resources. Actions should principally focus on hydrocarbons and renewable energy sources including hydro power, solar and biomass as well as on the promotion of energy efficiency and should be in line with the relevant political initiatives in the field of energy for the countries concerned, including bilateral energy MoU’s.
