The Federal Ministry of Environment, the Special Climate Change Unit in collaboration with JGD-GISL Panacea Limited; and support from the World Bank and other International Developmental Agencies will host the International Conference on Carbon Credit Opportunities in Nigeria, on the 9th to 11th of November 2009.

The theme of the conference is to identify the scope for market based Climate Change projects in various sectors in Nigeria, build capacity for its development in order to make Nigeria the hub of CDM projects in Africa.

International Carbon Credit conference is a learning opportunity for all interested climate change practitioners irrespective of their private or public sector or academic or technical affiliations, to come together to learn about, exchange views and network with the global climate change communities. It offers an excellent platform for CDM project hosts, carbon credit buyers, government representatives, DNA,s and carbon experts to learn, network and do business in strategic regional hubs. JGD-GISL aim is to provide an event that will exceeds everyone’s expectations, thus becoming an annual event.

This three day event would provide an excellent platform for businesses to understand and appreciate the various opportunities inherent in carbon trade as the World seeks to mitigate Climate Change. It would also enable stakeholders from emerging economies share experiences and lessons on their participation and implementation of one of the flexible mechanisms to the Kyoto Protocol of which Nigeria is a signatory. The Carbon Credit market is a $120 Billion market which Nigeria is yet to fully take advantage of, despite our enormous resources that qualify as CDM and carbon credits generating projects. It is expected that as many as 1500 delegates, top government officials and Chieftains of the private sector from Africa, Europe, Latin America, India and China will gather at the Abuja International Conference Center for the 3-day event which will be declared open by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
