REEEP Meeting of Partners

REEEP's biannual Meeting of Partners, constitutionally the highest level decision making body within the Partnership, will take place on 26 October 2010 in Delhi to coincide with Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC). Project leaders rate REEEP highly

In late 2009 REEEP joined a group of nine social change networks, in order to be part of a comparative evaluation survey by their proper constituents. Overall, REEEP’s constituents rate the value they get from the partnership very highly compared to other networks.

19th Pacific Power Association Conference in Port Moresby

REEEP attended the PPA 19th Annual Conference in Papua New Guinea in early July. Eva Oberender, Regional Director for Southeast Asia and Pacific, presented on “Encouraging Energy Efficiency and Conservation” while Maaike Gobel, Manager Policy & Projects, introduced “Policy frameworks in the Pacific region”.

Climate change dominates 41st Pacific Island Forum Meeting

Heads of State and Government from a large number of Pacific Island countries and territories attended the 41st Pacific Islands Forum held in Port Vila, Vanuatu, 4-5 August 2010. Among the topics discussed, leaders dealt with climate change issues, emphasising the need for greater coordination in the region. Leaders discussed the mid-term review of the Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change and its accompanying action plan, in order to give political guidance to the region on climate change. Smaller Island States leaders also discussed a consolidated Pacific common position for the upcoming climate change conference in Cancun, Mexico, in late 2010.

World Bank appoints Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Leader

The World Bank announced the appointment of Daniel M. Kammen as the organisation’s Chief Technical Specialist for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, a new position created to provide strategic leadership on this topic within the Bank.

Accra Declaration on MDGs in crisis settings issues
The representatives of 12 crisis-affected countries, including Timor-Leste and Papua New Guinea, met in Accra, Ghana, on 19-20 July 2010, to participate in a workshop organised by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in countries affected by conflict.
