The Energy, Climate, and Innovation (ECI) research program in the Center for International Environment and Resource Policy (CIERP) at The Fletcher School, Tufts University is soliciting applications for pre- and post-doctoral fellowships.

The research fellows will report directly to the ECI Faculty Director, Prof. Kelly Sims Gallagher. Post-doctoral research fellows are expected to produce, on average, at least two publishable articles per year (or a book), present his/her findings before internal and external audiences, and play a substantive role in the dissemination process of any findings. Pre-doctoral fellows are expected to complete their doctoral dissertations. In addition, all fellows are expected to contribute to the organization of related conferences and workshops, and to assist with grant writing and reporting. Fellows are expected to work collaboratively in the research program, and to take the lead on some projects.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Applications for the Research Fellow for climate and/or ETI policy are welcome from current doctoral students who are "all but dissertation" or recent recipients of the Ph.D. or equivalent degree. The ideal candidate will have academic and/or professional experience examining issues related to climate change or ETI policy. Applications from political scientists, lawyers, economists, those in the natural sciences, and others of diverse disciplinary backgrounds are all welcome. Candidates will also have excellent skills in presenting complex material to a wide range of audiences. Candidates who hold a Master's degree and have extensive experience will not be considered.

Stipend information

ECI offers ten-month stipends of $41,500 to post-doctoral research fellows and $20,800 to pre-doctoral fellows. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for other sources of funding. All applicants should indicate clearly in their research statement whether they are seeking full or partial funding, and indicate other potential funding sources.

Applications are due July 15, 2010. ECI fellowships are for the academic year 2010-2011 (September 1 - June 30), and they may be renewed.

Each applicant should submit as one complete packet in PDF form:

1. A completed one-page cover letter containing:
  • full name
  • physical mailing address and phone numbers
  • email address
  • indication of which fellowship to which you are applying (pre or post-doc, climate or ETI)
  • indication of need of full or partial funding
2. 3-5 page double-spaced statement that proposes a major research project or dissertation prospectus, including its relevance to climate or ETI policy in the United States or China.
3. A short writing sample pertinent to the application.
4. An up-to-date curriculum vitae;

The steps above constitute the application process. The applicant is responsible for collecting all materials, including letters of recommendation and transcripts and submitting them. Materials submitted will not be returned to the applicant.
