New Plan Vivo project registered in Tanzania

A new Plan Vivo project, called Emiti Nibwo Bulora, has been validated and registered. The project is located in the Kagera district of Tanzania, and is supporting rural smallholders to carry out afforestation and agroforestry activities.

Mexican REDD strategy to build on lessons from Plan Vivo

Mexico's REDD strategy is set to build on lessons from Scolel Te (the longest standing Plan Vivo project), and other successful payments for ecosystem services (PES) programmes in the country. Mexico's Readiness Preparation Proposal ('R-PP'), submitted to the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) in February this year, lays out plans for an initial national framework to reduce deforestation and forest degradation.

The review of Mexico's proposal by the FCFP Technical Advisory Panel specifically praised the Mexican government for building on lessons learned through the Scolel Te programme, which has engaged rural, indigenous communities in forest management and agroforestry activities since the 1990s using the Plan Vivo System. Plan Vivo Foundation launches Technical Advisory Group

The Plan Vivo Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of its Technical Advisory Group, a group of experts in carbon methodologies, participatory forest management, agroforestry and livelihoods assessment. The Group will help to guide the Foundation in the technical development of the standard, and participate in peer reviewing technical documents from existing and potential Plan Vivo projects.

Ugandan Plan Vivo project completes first third-party verification

Trees for Global Benefits, a Plan Vivo project in Uganda, has completed its first third-party verification audit by the Rainforest Alliance. The project was found to meet the requirements of the Plan Vivo Standard, and be on target to generating contracted emissions reductions with additional livelihood and ecosystem benefits.
