SNV in Nepal supports national government, financial institutions and other stakeholders in policy development as well as specific project development in the area of carbon funding. SNV, in partnership with DFID, supports the government of Nepal through the establishment of a Climate and Carbon Unit (CCU) in the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC). SNV is also developing innovative ways to make carbon funding accessible for upfront financing of renewable energy schemes.

To continue to deliver and expand its current activities in this field, SNV in Nepal is seeking a dynamic and innovative advisor with a strong professional background in carbon markets.

Duty station: Kathmandu, capital of Nepal.

Capacity Development Services
  • Advise and train SNV clients on the development of CDM and voluntary market projects including Project identification, baseline development, writing of Project Idea Note (PIN) and Project Design Document (PDD), project financing and contracting (ERPA) and emission reduction monitoring;
  • Build the capacity of the DNA on the carbon trading mechanisms and procedures such as that of CDM and gold standard and advise on national policy development in this area.
  • Advise SNV clients and SNV renewable energy team on the climate change mitigation and adaptation potential of household and community-based renewable energy technologies and the utilisation of climate change funding to continue and expand existing programmes and develop new programmes (including funds for climate change adaptation and technology transfer);

Positioning and networking
  • Support the Renewable Energy team and other Carbon Finance Advisors in the Asia region to identify and capitalise on funding and partnership opportunities in relation to climate investment and renewable energy options;
  • Contribute to strategy development and positioning of SNV as a visible and knowledgeable organisation in the fields of carbon finance and renewable energy


  • Masters Degree in engineering, environmental science, or related fields (e.g. Forestry, Renewable Energy).
  • Relevant working experience and excellent knowledge of the voluntary and regulated carbon markets, with a minimum of three years work experience in developing CDM/VER projects (preferable in the renewable energy sector);
  • Full understanding of CDM procedures, guidance and guidelines;
  • Proven interest in wider issues related to climate change and low-carbon energy options, including climate change adaptation and technology transfer.
  • Experience in the renewable energy sector in Asia is an advantage.
