Regional Manager's job description

GVEP International’s regional office has been operational since July 2008 in East Africa. The East Africa Regional Office (EARO) manages regional activities and the office is located in Nairobi.GVEP-International is currently looking for an innovative, team oriented Regional Manager with strong leadership and organisational skills, including ability to build and motivate a team, to support the Head Office CEO and COO in the management of the East Africa regional office and its programmes.

Main Responsibility:

  • He/She shall be responsible for managing the East Africa operations from the Nairobi Regional Office.
  • The Regional Manager will be responsible for the effective implementation of all the GVEP International activities including overall technical and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with donor reporting requirements.
  • He/She will report directly to the UK Head Office.

Other Responsibilities shall include:
  • Representing GVEP International in the East Africa region. He/She will be responsible for the promotion of the Organisation’s work and profile and will communicate to the COO, GVEP-International to update regularly on progress made.
  • Responsible for building up a regional strategy for GVEP-International including the design of new programmes and funding streams with UK based staff.

Qualifications:

The candidate will be required to posses at least a Masters degree in either of the following fields; energy, engineering, economics, environmental sciences or any other relevant field.

Other essential qualifications:
  • Knowledge of African energy access and energy infrastructure issues.
  • Experience in renewable energy in a senior management position.
  • Experience of working closely with international development cooperation or donor organisations, ensuring compliance with Grant Agreement requirements.

Other Requirements:

The Candidate should have a minimum of 8 Years Experience in managing international donor programmes on energy related issues and working experience within East Africa region and or neighbouring countries.

Programme Manager's job description

GVEP-International is looking for a Programme Manager to support Energy Small and Medium Enterprises in selected countries in East and West Africa. The position is Nairobi based, and the candidate should have good managerial and communication skills. A major focus of the position will be to strengthen the role of the private sector in energy delivery.

Main Responsibility:

  • Liaise between government agencies, consultants and stakeholders to establish a portfolio of energy projects. To then lead and monitor a multi country staff team overseeing project implementation.
  • Responsible for budget monitoring, financial management and expenses control as well as programme reporting, all in compliance with donor requirements and ensuring that the necessary systems are in place.
  • Report to the Regional Manager Africa.

Other Responsibilities shall include:
  • Support entrepreneurs and investor in the creation of viable business solutions to meet the energy needs of people currently not served or underserved.
  • Build collaboration with stakeholders and provide inputs to policy advisors to create a viable private sector active in energy supply.
  • Leverage additional funding by exploring linkages with public and private funds, investment opportunities, carbon finance, etc.

Qualifications:

The candidate will be required to possess at least a Degree in a relevant subject area, e.g. engineering, business administration, energy policy.

Other essential qualifications:
  • Experience in the energy sector essential including project financing and investment, energy technology and the energy policy environment.
  • Experience with investment funds and working with Financial Institutions (development banks, commercial banks, microfinance).
  • Proven experience in project management, including budget expenditure, donor relations, reporting, proposal writing, staff management and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Solid and proven background in Project administration and management.
  • Experience of working closely with international development cooperation or donor organisations, ensuring compliance with Grant Agreement requirements.
  • Proven experience in business management, financial management, and risk management as well as practical knowledge of small business/SME development and sustainable development/Corporate Social Responsibility issues.
  • Fluency is English is essential. The ability to speak and read French would be an advantage.

Other Requirements:

The Candidate should have a minimum of 5 Years Experience in Programme Management within donor funded programmes on energy related issues and working experience within East Africa region and or neighbouring countries.
