Welcome new user

Welcome to the HEDON Household Energy Knowledge Bank, and thanks for taking the time to read this short introduction to how the system works. If you are looking for the general Welcome page for HEDON look here.

This forum works in a way that is probably quite different from that found on any other websites you have used - unless you are familiar with Wikipedia! Essentially it is a mixture between a discussion list and a normal webpage, with the idea that almost all pages can be edited by logged in users. Not only that, but any users can create new linked pages as a topic develops. The help page summarizes how this works.

All text in this forum is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License.

NOTE: If you would like to use content from this forum first read the "Users' rights and obligations section" of the copyright page. You should then read the Full GNU Free Documentation License.

A web system where all users can create and edit pages may sound a little weird to begin with, but there are a few excellent examples of this type of free collaboration system which have evolved into excellent resources (if you're interested, take a look at www.wikipedia.org, the online collaborative encyclopedia, for example - they currently have over 140000 English articles!).

The aim is that the forum will contain both basic and more advanced content on household energy and health contributed by users from all round the world. It will contain a growing body of knowledge that includes various how-to guides, and practical topics such as "how to measure stove efficiency", "how to measure stove emissions", with links to more specialist topics. The Forum also will contain personal profiles?, organisation profiles (any houshold energy organisation can, for example, easily make a web page for themselves on the forum - linking to their own webpage if they have one), and guidance for policy makers, NGOs, companies, general public etc.

The content on all these issues is created by people from all round the world - like you for example - gradually getting more useful and more detailed as people add their own expertise. Don't worry about something important getting deleted - if it does, someone will soon enough put it back (we have a record of each and every change).
