Volunteer tasks suitable for anyone

Spend a few minutes having a go using HEDON and tell us what could be explained to users better, or otherwise improved. Information about anything that is difficult to understand, confusing or otherwise problematic is very valuable to us. Please let us know anything you think could be improved!

This is the simplest of all tasks, but potentially one of the most important. Don't just spam your friends: try to think of people who have an interest in energy in the context of acute poverty. We're not just looking for energy experts, we also are very keen to expand our users from health, engineering, gender, policy, forestry, agriculture, industry, etc.

We currently have 5 or 6 people joining HEDON every week. If you are a friendly, outgoing kind of person, we would be thrilled if you could join a small group of welcomers. Just let us know how many people you could email or phone in a week, and we'll put you in touch with new subscribers. We'll also give you guidelines in how to do this effectively.

Do you have a pet topic on household energy? Are you doing research in a particular area and are willing to share your knowledge and experience? Please look through the Knowledge Base, and let us know which page you would like to adopt (as 'Editor in Chief'). You can even create a new page if you can't find the topic you are looking for.

Carbon SIG, the special interest group on cooking and carbon has created a glossary here: Carbon SIG glossary?. We are looking for people who can 'google' the terms, and write definitions.

This might include what kind of energy your country is using and the possible impacts that this use has on the environment, to you or to the economy of your country.

[top] [end]Help us to translate various topics of the knowledge base into Spanish or French

Are you French or Spanish? Do you have excellent oral skills in Spanish or French? Then come and help us in traslating some of the exciting topics in HEDON Network.

[top] [end]Join the 'celebrity chef' programme!

Ok - here's the idea: Household Energy is dominated by Cooking Energy. We have a dream of being adopted by international and local celebrity chefs to help spread the word, and raise the profile of household energy and related health, social and environmental impacts). Imagine a BBC World / CNN series of programmes exploring cooking in poor countries around the world, highlighting health impacts, and telling some of the 'stories' of successes... at the same time talking about tasty food. An example might be the GTZ project in Malawi which addresses food security, alternative recipies using 'lost' vegetables, etc, and a programme on this with your favourite international celebrity chef, and you get the idea. So, what could you do: help us develop a strategy - we are looking for people to develop the idea further, develop a logo, slogan, try to identify and pursuade celebrity chefs to discuss this idea with us, lobby media sources etc.
