The global community is increasingly shining a spotlight on
energy as a key component of poverty alleviation and development efforts. Illustrative of this shift is how donors, developing country governments, civil society, and most importantly, the private sector, are all lining up to get involved in international initiatives setting their sights on energy development. However, many efforts have been unable to successfully meet the needs and wants of the energy poor. The Poor People’s Energy Outlook (PPEO) 2014, launched at the UN Sustainable Energy for All Forum in June 2014, seeks to discuss and communicate these issues.
