Page of Joseph Sekiku

I am called Joseph Sekiku. Born 1966. I hold a BA Philosophy from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. Thereafter, I studied Theology. Later I took studies in renewable energy technologies at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) at Machnylleth, Wales (UK).

I now work with FADECO, Tanzania, A local NGO in Karagwe district, Kagera Region, NW Tanzania. FADECO specializes in agricultural extension and participatory technology Development with rural farmers.

FADECO also promotes renewable energy technologies are is focusing on the following:
  1. Promotion of solar fruit drying technologies to preserve perishable crops esp. fruits and vegetables.
  2. Solar cookers
  3. Improved cooking (fuel-saving) stoves
  4. Wind energy
  5. Solar Photo Voltaics
  6. Agro-forestry
FADECO has completed the first phase of what is to be called: The Eden centre for Appropriate technologies (ECAT), a centre whose main objective will be to transfer skills and to develop, demonstrate and transfer new appropriate technologies in Tanzania.

Currently, the centre uses electricity from the Wind (an ampair wind turbine) produces just well above 100W of power. This provides power for 5 lights, a radio and a black and white TV. This is very clean, cheap and sustainable energy source.

FADECO has a website which could be accessed by clicking www.fadeco.org. The Eden Centre for Appropriate Technology site is also in the making and initial pages could be viewed at www.fadeco.org/ecat
