Page of Erin Boyd

An energy economist by trade, I am currently pursuing a PhD in Economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. My dissertation topic is a direct outgrowth of my previous work in Ethiopia, where I implemented and managed a pilot project supported by the Shell Foundation to measure the potential economic, social and environment impacts of a household market for ethanol. Specifically, my thesis examines both the intra- and extra-household dynamics of energy choices in Ethiopia through the development and application of new survey techniques and methodologies; with development completed, I have just returned from piloting these in Addis Ababa.

In addition to pursuing my PhD, I had the great fortune to work concurrently for Eco Ltd for one year ending in October 2006. Prior to my time in Ethiopia, I was embroiled in the United States electricity industry during deregulation, where I worked for a non-profit group representing consumer-owned utilities in the Pacific Northwest and as a research student at the Carnegie Mellon Electricity and Industry Center. Doing mostly technical analysis, I designed and modelled the economic, social and power systems engineering impacts of various energy tariffs, national and local energy policies, and energy sources, from supply to distribution to end-use consumption.

I'd love to hear from you. . .erin@...
