Technology and Development GroupThe Technology and Development Group is an academic teaching and research unit within the University of Twente's Faculty of Business and Public Administration and Technology. The group has two sections: Technology and Sustainable Development (TSD)and International Business Management.The TDG offers a comprehensive range of courses, for all students of the University, dealing with different aspects of development issues. The PhD programme not only contributes to the research activities of the group but also provides candidates with the skills to enable them to think analytically and be capable of conducting independent research. The TDG has an international reputation as one of the leading institutions in post-experience training in energy and environmental management. The courses offered aim at capacity building to enable developing countries to devise and implement policies, with innovative approaches, for sustainable development. The TSD section takes as its starting point for research that poverty is a multidimensional condition requiring more complex solutions than solely income generation. Within this context of more complex solutions, the overarching theme of the Section's research is governance of technology for development, focusing on management of natural resources, in particular forestry, energy, and water. The expertise of the TDG in development issues is recognised by international agencies, such as the World Bank, FAO and UNDP, as well as donor organisations, such as DGIS and SIDA, who request staff members to act in advisory capacities to their projects and programmes. Studies are also undertaken on behalf of non-governmental organisations and the private sector.
