One example of people earning income from the use of energy are the micro-hydro projects set up by Practical Action, Peru (www.ashdenawards.org/winners/practicalaction). The population of a small town in the Andes doubled, not from new people coming in, but from people who had left the town to set up their own businesses in places which had electricity, who have come back to continue their business in their home town, since the hydro-electric system was installed. With a new design of small commercial stove, biomass energy is renewable and local. Some innovative outputs from the pilot scale projects are one kilo of LPG is being replaced with 2.35 kilo of biomass briquette! We see huge savings for consumers (more than 65%) and sustainability of women enterprise ( earning $ 1.5- $ 2 ) per day (4-5 hrs working at home). User: Ramesh Nibhoria
