Organisation for Bio Initiatives (OBI), Zambia

The Organisation for Bio Initiatives (OBI) evolved out of the observation that there is a lot of potential for renewable energy in rural areas that can contribute to the general wealth of the people and a shortage of institutions that can assist in the realisation of this potential. OBI is a non-governmental and non-profit making organisation, preparing its operations since January 2007. In October 2007 the organisation has been registered under the Registrar of Companies as a Company Limited by Guarantee (registration number: 69031).

OBI consists of four board-members and two executive members. The board has an advisory task. The executive team leads the logistics and operations of OBI. The executive team is divided in a Programme Manager and a Field Coordinator. Programme Manager and Field Coordinator work in close cooperation and they are accountable to each other and to the board.

The vision of OBI is: Rural communities in Zambia can satisfy in their basic needs and more through the rural production of renewable energy

OBI's mission is: Wealth creation, women empowerment and energy independence in rural areas of Zambia in an environmentally sustainable manner
