[top] [end]Organization profile [top] [end]Origin of fundsGerman Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ), Government of Germany[top] [end]Goals/aimsThe Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. Its corporate objective is to improve people’s living conditions and perspectives in developing and transition countries. It was founded in 1975 as a company under private law. Main clients are the German Federal government and the public or private sector, national or international, such as the EU, World Bank or UN organisations, and for private sector companies. Its main client is the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).Development needs energy In regard to the energy sector GTZ aims at establishing a sustainable basic energy supply to improve living conditions and alleviate poverty. GTZ therefore supports the use of renewable energy to satisfy basic energy needs. Energy efficiency and support to Goverments in setting favourable framework conditions are of main concern. GTZ promotes different technology options according to different needs. Within the household energy sector, GTZ has been supporting the development and dissemination of energy-efficient stoves for about 25 years now. In this time around 1,5 Million stoves have been disseminated. GTZ HERA is the current household energy programme.
