GOAL[top] [end]GOAL IrelandGOAL is an Irish charity organization which was established in 1977 and is now celebrating its 30th anniversery. It is working in 11 countries majority of them being in the continent of Africa. GOAL is highly respected within the international donor community, and has earned several awards and accolades from the Irish, UK and US governments, various United Nations agencies, the Executive Director of the World Food Programme, James Morris, the Mayor of New York, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson. GOAL works with missionaries and with local partner organisations that have similar objectives, with funding from the Irish public and a whole range of donor organisations. GOAL ensures that the poorest of the poor and the most vulnerable in our world and those affected by humanitarian crises have access to the fundamental needs and rights of life: food, water, shelter, medical attention and literacy GOAL has responded to nearly every major natural and man-made disaster in the past 30 years, working with the poorest of the poor in 50 countries… rebuilding communities ... Once emergency situations have been resolved, GOAL implements a wide range of rehabilitation programmes including primary healthcare, repair of home and infrastructure, clinics, schools etc., and water and sanitation. Long-term development programmes in areas such as health, nutrition, education and capacity building of indigenous humanitarian organisations are also implemented. [top] [end]GOAL, IndiaGOAL, India is headquartered in Kolkata. In India GOAL supports the development needs of the poorest of the poor in eastern India through national partners. It has long since been realized that "energy" is a serious cross cutting issue, that needs to be addressed if the MDG's are to be achieved.GOAL's interest in energy and particularly household energy stems from the fact that the poorest of the poor usually do not have any access to energy. The lack of energy restricts pursuit of sustainable livelihoods, while the use of inferior fuels impacts adversely on the health of the user. Fuel for domestic consumption and energy security are key issues that impact the quality of lives of these rural and urban poor. GOAL India is presently working on projects that are aimed at developing extensive base lines on the energy needs of communities and families in the urban and rural context.
