GIRA Mexico![]() GIRA has also extensive experience on participatory training techniques and has developed a user-to user training package on health issues (currently applied to prevent lead pollution derived from fuelwood-base pottery). GIRA is the leading Mexican NGOs on the topic of cookstove development and dissemination. Through its national annual workshop on bioenergy, and collaborative projects, GIRA has advised more than 40 other NGOs on diverse aspects of biomass energy and cookstoves dissemination. Two years ago, GIRA in partnership with the Centro de Investigaciones en Ecosistemas, UNAM, received a national conservation prize for the project on cookstove dissemination within the Purepecha Region. The cookstove project was also featured in the magazine National Geographic (June 2002-spanish edition). At the policy level, GIRA sits on the State Commission on Forest Resource Management (COTECOFOM).
