HEDON is the place where practitioners, policy-makers, funders, and business-owners actively pursuing a cleaner, affordable and more efficient household energy sector unite to share their experiences, learn from one another, and create new knowledge.

[top] [end]What does HEDON do?

HEDON is addressing the issues associated with household energy 'head on'. As an electronic network, those working in household energy can join, and exchange ideas, circulate papers for comment, and inform others of conferences and meetings which could be of interest.
  • HEDON is maintained by a large number of volunteers around the world.
  • At the HEDON meeting currently held about once a year, members meet to focus on a particular theme, and discuss topics of mutual interest.
  • The activities of HEDON and its members are reported in the journal Boiling Point to enable it to reach those who do not have access to computers.

Fill in your details to join the HEDON community and you will be notified by email of your login details once your application has been approved. As a subscriber you will also receive our monthly newsletter, and can join our Special Interest Groups like CarbonSIG and the CleanAirSIG,

[top] [end]What are Special Interest Groups?

Special Interest Groups or SIGs are thematic groupings of HEDON members, and are new initiatives being introduced to the HEDON community. They include: CarbonSIG, CleanAirSIG, LiquidSIG, PureSIG, MandESIG. SIGs aim to:
  • Connect people with other people for mutual benefit
  • Lever resources by building innovative partnerships.
  • Act as a premier source of knowledge and voice.
Once you have subscribed, you can manage your subscriptions and join these groups via the 'User Centre'.

[top] [end]Who can help me with my project / idea?

Firstly fill in your profile page in HEDON the more information you give about yourself, your background and present position, the better the response. By joining one or more of the Special Interest Groups you may find more people that may share the same interests as you. Next prepare your news item to post on HEDON - details should include; your idea, the geography, who would need to be involved, possible finance and your contact details. Go to our User Guide for step by step instructions on how to add a news item.

HEDON needs volunteers with all sorts of skills to help build, maintain and get the most out of our site and services. The work you do can make a real impact for those living in poverty and help to improve life for those whose homes are made dangerous and unwelcoming due to smoke. Your time and effort is therefore really valuable.

[top] [end]What is Boiling Point?

Boiling Point is a practitioner’s journal for those working with household energy and stoves. It deals with technical, social, financial and environmental issues and aims to improve the quality of life for poor communities living in the developing world. Articles are contributed by readers and the journal is a forum for the sharing of information and experiences on household energy. Boiling Point reaches over two thousand addresses and has probably five times that number of readers worldwide. Boiling Point was created in 1982 by Practical Action who published the first 52 issues. Back issues are available

[top] [end]How do I receive Boiling Point?

If you do not receive Boiling Point and would like to do so, please login to HEDON and then under 'Manage Subscriptions' select 'subscribe' for Boiling Point. This feature may be found under the welcome/user centre page for logged in users.

Once you have logged in the User Centre enables you to update and amended your directory profile to increase your networking potential. You can edit and view your personal page and subscribe to HEDON groups as well as external groups and publications.

We have regular updates on forthcoming events and meetings, for details visit the home page.
