FADECO Tanzania, the Family Alliance for Development and Cooperation

FADECO, Tanzania, the Family Alliance for Development and Cooperation, is a local NGO in Karagwe district, Kagera Region, NW Tanzania which specializes in agricultural extension and participatory technology Development with rural farmers.

FADECO also promotes renewable energy technologies and is focusing on the following:
  1. Promotion of solar fruit drying technologies to preserve perishable crops esp. fruits and vegetables.
  2. Solar cookers
  3. Improved cooking (fuel-saving) stoves
  4. Wind energy
  5. Solar Photo Voltaics
  6. Agro-forestry
FADECO has completed the first phase of what is to be called: The Eden centre for Appropriate technologies (ECAT), a centre whose main objective will be to transfer skills and to develop, demonstrate and transfer new appropriate technologies in Tanzania.

Currently, the centre uses electricity from the Wind (an ampair wind turbine) produces just well above 100W of power. This provides power for 5 lights, a radio and a black and white TV. This is very clean, cheap and sustainable energy source.
