ENERGIA-Africa Network

ENERGIA-Africa (www.energia-africa.org) is a regional network which is part of ENERGIA, the International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, an international network on gender and sustainable energy. The network links individuals and groups concerned with energy, sustainable development, and gender. ENERGIAs goal is to contribute to the empowerment of rural and urban poor women through a specific focus on energy issues. Founded in 1995 and with the support of the Netherlands and Sweden, ENERGIA has built a strong southern ownership of the network through support to creation of regional, Southern networks, including ENERGIA-Africa.

The ENERGIA-Africa Network was established through a regional consultative process in 2000. It exists as an informal network based on organisations working on energy and sustainable development issues in Africa, who share agreed Principles on gender, women's empowerment and sustainable development. The COOPENER project TIE-ENERGIA builds on the existing Network to implement a number of capacity building activities.
