Restio Energy is a leading energy for development consultancy, based in Cape Town, South Africa. The company was founded in 2001 (then called RAPS Consulting), and has since led or participated in a number of high profile rural and renewable energy and development consultancy and implementation projects, both in South Africa and in other African countries

Restio Energy has a position available for a Sustainable Energy Consultant and/or Intern to join our Mowbray office.

Key attributes include:

  • A relevant four year degree in engineering, physical sciences, economics or development studies (appropriate Masters degree completed or well underway preferred)
  • Drive to contribute to sustainable development and a sustainable energy future *Ability to work creatively in a challenging environment
  • An understanding of rural development challenges
  • Knowledge of energy, and in particular renewable energy issues and technologies an advantage
  • Self motivated and creative
  • Good writing skills (English) and ability to produce excellent quality work within deadlines
  • Willing to travel, and spend time in rural areas
  • Good organizational skills
  • Analytical ability in one or more of the following areas: technical, financial/economics, socio-economic data
  • All things being equal, preference for the filling of the post will be given to historically disadvantaged applicants.
Main responsibilities:

The Sustainable Energy Consultant/Intern would focus their attention on a 14 month project to develop technical and institutional frameworks for renewable and hybrid energy access for micro and small enterprises in rural areas of South Africa. However, they would also have the opportunity to work on a range of other sustainable energy projects (see project section of the web site for indication of the range of work). Flexibility and an enthusiasm to take on new challenges is important.
