Using assistance from the UNDP Regional Energy Program for Poverty Reduction, Approtech last year provided an energy-efficient, fuel-saving charcoal stove, which was developed locally based on a Thai and Cambodian model, to over 100 ambulant food vendors.

GOURMANDS and fine dining restaurant owners may not like it, but street food is an inextricable part of the Philippines' gastronomic landscape.

In fact, fish balls, squid balls, kikiam, banana cue, chicken mami, siopao, siomai, barbecue, grilled fish, fried chicken and pansit sold in the city streets by ambulant vendors command a bigger share of the average Filipino's wallet and stomach.
